WHO:

California Energy Commission, ConSol, De Young Properties and Fresno State will host A Path to Zero Net Energy Symposium to educate the next generation of students from related building and real estate disciplines, homebuilders, urban planners, local government, the construction industry and the media.


WHAT:

A Path to Zero Net Energy Symposium will provide a broader understanding of Zero Net Energy (ZNE) building and help bridge the gap in understanding residential ZNE as a policy, construction method and driver of market value. 

Commissioner Andrew McAllister of the California Energy Commission will deliver the keynote address to provide insight on what the future holds for clean energy in California and the importance of ZNE education across all sectors. 

The attending audience will learn:

·       A Home Builder’s Perspective: Why align with California ZNE goals now?


·       ZNE Research & Development: Where are we and where are we going?


·       Managing the Grid: How will ZNE advancements in homebuilding affect the grid?


·       Accelerating the Transition: What role does solar generation and battery storage play in ZNE homebuilding?


·       New Building Codes: How will California’s proposed goals for ZNE homebuilding change the industry?


A distinguished panel of experts will include:

·       Brandon De Young, executive vice president, De Young Properties.


·       Garth Torvestad, senior technical consultant, ConSol.


·       Conrad Asper, resident portfolio manager, Pacific Gas & Electric Company.


·       Tom Harvey, senior manager, Tesla Energy.


·       Robert Raymer, senior engineer/technical director, California Building Industry Association. 



The panel discussion will be moderated by:


·       Dr. Michelle Calvarese, professor and department chair, Department of Geography and City & Regional Planning, College of Social Sciences, Fresno State.


·       Brad Hyatt, P.E., LEED AP, associate professor and department chair, Department of Construction Management, Lyles College of Engineering, Fresno State.


·       Dr. Andres Jauregui, associate professor and director, Gazarian Real Estate Center, Craig School of Business, Fresno State.
